Themes and Plot

My original idea for the music trailer that I am going to make was going to be based on a character that is featured in an anime. From the picture that you can see on the right, I was planning to have the animation that I was going to do be based on small animals. This character is called Shao May in the anime, Full Metal Alchemist. I had decided that I would make a much smaller version of this character in a baby form to make cuter and more child friendly. From the second picture underneath, I tried to sketch out different kinds of emotions based on the character as well as trying to branch out from just drawing pandas to maybe sketching small animals and household pets such as cats, dogs, hamsters etc.
I came up with another idea that I believe would be a lot simpler than drawing animals and thought about make a music video trailer based on retro games such as Super Mario Bros, Sonic and Space Raiders. I began deciding how I was going to design the character and thought that the best choice was to design the character on myself. But to not plagiarize Mario and Sonic, I will need to design new powers and pick ups that will be included in the video. I think that what will make me animation different from these kind of games is that it will not have any colour but will be in black and white.
My original plot for the the animation is to start with a a drawing of a modern computer but on the screen is the main menu of a retro game then zoom into the screen as if the viewer is actually being inserted into the game themselves.
